My Shattered window onto the world, this is stuff and nonsense, mixed with stuff I might want to share with the world... is the world interested? probably not.

Earthquakes in Turkey
Mom and Dad are over there on holiday, cant remember what part they went to, so glad that everyone is ok.
TheDaddys Retirement Party
As well as us five XCondor and ^S^'s wives came along for a meal at a Thai restaurant and then we hit the town, except XCondor and his wife stopped back as they only came out for the meal.
Cant say too much about the evening, as I got rather drunk, but it was really good fun for us to get together and have a few drinks together, I think we hit about four different pubs with one in particular being one that we found that was open until 1am and that we could sit down and have a proper chat.
not sure what time we got back to Andy's but it must have been after 2am where we had a glass of wine before going our separate ways.
well, not exactly because I was stopping at Andy's as I live 60 miles from Nottingham, and Luis lives a lot futher in Portugal, but was stopping at a hotel in Nottingham. Suprising enogth Luis had been in Nottingham 3 days and knew his way around better that Andy who lives there.
But we was chatting about XLink and other shit until the very early hours, until we finally crashed out.
9am Saturday morning my Wife phone to say she was on her way to pick me up, I must say I felt like shit, but it was actually one of those times that you wake up with a hangover and it was worth getting blasted the night before.
Luis and Andy flew over to Portugal Saturday afternoon, I don't envy them going on an airplane with a hangover.

Damn Romans
If you said one your wrong.Source http://naggum.no/lugm-time.html
The Roman tradition of using Ante Meridiem and Post Meridiem to refer to the two halves have survived into English, despite the departure from the custom of changing the day of the month at noon. The Meridiem therefore has a very different role in modern usage than in ancient usage. This legacy notation also carries a number system that is fairly unusual. As seen from members of the 24-hour world, the order 12,1,2,...11,12,1,2,...,11 as mapped onto 0,1,2...,23 is not only confusing, it is nearly impossible to make people believe that 13 hours have elapsed from 11 AM to 12 AM. For instance, several Scandinavian restaurants are open only 1 hour a day to tourists from the world of the 12-hour clock, but open 13 hours a day to natives of the world of the 24-hour clock.
The Roman tradition of starting the year in the month of March has also been lost. Most agrarian societies were far more interested in the onset of spring than in the winter solstice, even though various deities were naturally celebrated when the sun returned Most calendars were designed by people who made no particular effort to be general or accurate outside their own lifetime or needs, but Julius Cæsar decided to move the Roman calendar back two months, and thus it came to be known as the Julian calendar. This means that month number 7, 8, 9, and 10 suddenly came in as number 9, 10, 11, and 12, but kept their names: September, October, November, December. This is of interest mostly to those who remember their Latin but far more important was the decision to retain the leap day in February. In the old calendar, the leap day was added at the end of the year, as makes perfect sense, when the month was already short, but now it is squeezed into the middle of the first quarter, complicating all sorts of calculations, and affecting how much people work. In the old days, the leap day was used as an extra day for the various fertility festivities. You would just have to be a cæsar to find this unappealing.
The Gregorian calendar improved on the quadrennial leap years in the Julian calendar by making only every fourth centennial a leap year, but the decision was unexpectedly wise for a calendar decision. It still is not accurate, so in a few thousand years, they may have to insert an extra leap day the way we introduce leap seconds now, but the simplicity of the scheme is quite amazing: a 400-year cycle not only starts 2000-03-01 (as it did 1600-03-01), it contains an even number of weeks: 20,871. This means that we can make do with a single 400-year calculation for all time within the Gregorian calendar with respect to days of week, leap days, etc. Pope Gregory XIII may well have given a similar paper to this one to another unsuspecting audience that probably also failed to appreciate the elegance of his solution., and 400 more years will pass before it is truly appreciated.
Other than the unexpected elegance of the Gregorian calendar, the world is now quite fortunate to have reached consensus on its calendars. Other calendars are still used, but we now have a global reference calendar with complete convertibility. This is great news for computers. It is almost as great news as the complete intercurrency convertibility that the monetary markets achieved only as late as 1992. Before that time, you could wind up with a different amount of money depending on which currencies you traded obscure currencies like the ruble through. The same applied to calendars: not infrequently, you could wind up on different dates according as you converted between calendar systems, similar to the problem of adding a year to February 29 any year and then subtracting a year.

Second tornado strikes Birmingham
Source http://news.bbc.co.uk
Another tornado has struck Birmingham under a mile from the scene of this summer's disaster.
Emergency services were called to Passey Road in Moseley early on Wednesday evening.
One home was evacuated after its roof was ripped off and a nearby road was closed, although no one was injured.
Weather experts said almost an inch of rain fell within an hour in Edgbaston and caused traffic chaos for many rush hour motorists.
Meanwhile, Central Trains services between Lichfield Trent Valley and Redditch have been suspended until further notice due to flooding in the Longbridge area.
More heavy downpours are expected throughout the evening.
The trees were bending in and birds were getting caught up in it too
Ritesh Bara, tornado eyewitness
Resident Mohammed Saleem said he had not been in the house when the tornado struck.
"When I came back I saw it. There was debris everywhere. I was shocked it had happened again," he said.
His wife, four children and disabled mother have been forced to stay with his brother overnight.
"The upstairs of the house is gutted completely and water is coming in downstairs," he said.
Fire crews said they were unable to cover the house with tarpaulin as the structure had been taken away by the winds.
Neighbour Ritesh Bara witnessed the twister, he said: "I couldn't get a signal on my TV so I looked out the window and it was dark black.
"For a couple of seconds I couldn't hear anything from the pressure. I went outside and there was a thick, black smoke going around.
"The trees were bending in and birds were getting caught up in it too. It was terrifying."
A teacher at a nearby school said debris had been thrown through the air.
Maggie Hazel, from Springfield School, said several tiles were ripped from the roof.
'Tornado conditions'
She said: "One colleague saw it pass by, she saw something whirring and something fell and dropped by the window.
"We all felt the wind blow right through the building and wondered what was going on, then we heard a big bang.
"The worst damage was to a business across the road, something like a wooden pallet was picked up and hurled through the roof. It is still sticking out of it."
The weather conditions are similar to those of the afternoon 28 July when a tornado struck the Moseley and Kings Heath parts of the city.
Entire roofs were ripped off homes, trees were uprooted and cars overturned in the street as the wind whipped down the streets.
A Met Office spokesman said the second tornado was possible because of the heavy rain some areas of the city had experienced.
The Environment Agency has reported the River Rea, which runs through Northfield and Solihull is rising rapidly and is in danger of flooding.
Roads were closed in Sutton Coldfield and Harborne and flooding affected many more in Erdington, Stirchley, Small Heath and Edgbaston.
On the big scale of things its a small event, but its amazing that a Tornado can hit the middle of Land Locked Birmingham. Hitting practicly the same location it hit a few months ago.
And living a few minutes away, we didnt even notice until the news came on.
Why ?
I was wondering why we blog ?
So quite simply I searched on "Why" on the Google Blog search, one post stood out.
Why Women Should Despise Christianity
I'm not a big fan of Christianity, so i clicked on it to see what they had to say on the matter.
pleasantly surprised I saw a well put argument showing the persecution of women in religion, Christianity in particularly.
After reading I decided to comment, and put my slant on it, after all I have a different point of view on the subject.
Then I relised I found my answer.
Why do we Blog ? To Change the World.
yes I think it is that simple, we put out point of view on the internet, and perhaps it will change someone's viewpoint, they may then go and tell others, one day what you posted on a Blog may snow ball and change a whole religion, or nations way of looking at things.
so thank you kittim for answering a question before I had even asked it.
Zed Neo: Team Xlink / Xlink Kai
On Friday I decided to join. I guess my timing could not have been worse. I just happened to pick the day when all hell broke loose in the world of free international online gaming.
Must say this is close to the truth.
XLink Back
It was quite an eye opener to see everyone descend on Kai as soon as it came back on, and word must have spread like wild fire as soon the place was buzzing.
One thing of note was that its looking like its going to be a mad night on Friday, nearly every XLink admin are meeting up and going on the Lash, wish that Prestige, DIE-HARD, Funk and dfunked could make it as well, but unfortunately geography dictates such things.
If meeting TD, Tex and XC, wasn't enogth to look forward to RunTime from XBMC is coming as well, I should tell Kain, he'll be green with envy. Although I should discount ^S^ and Luis who are traveling all the way from Portugal, even though I haven't talked to them much it will certainly be nice to see them.
I don't think it was intended as such, but it will make a great retirement party for Andy.

The Breezy Badger
Review: Ubuntu 5.10 Breezy Badger
Tuesday October 11, 2005 (09:01 AM GMT)
By: Joe 'Zonker' Brockmeier
The Ubuntu 5.10 release, also known as Breezy Badger, is not drastically different from the previous Ubuntu release, 5.04 Hoary Hedgehog, but it is an excellent distribution that is well worth a look for any user interested in a Linux distro for the desktop or server.
The Ubuntu distribution is on a six-month development cycle, so releases tend to be full of minor improvements and incremental changes. This is a good thing for users, since it means a great deal of stability from release to release -- as well as a predictable release cycle that's easy to plan around.
lol, I got to use the breezy badger.
is that shallow to choose an operating system because of the name ?
Would Windows be as poular if it was called "Frames" ?
Linux
easy
No
Well I didn't expect it to be a walk in the park, but I'll keep trying and reading, I'm sure I will get it working soon.
Good thing is, if I manage to brick the laptop, it doesn't matter as it was given to me by a friend about 12 months ago who's work was chucking them out.
Hopefully it will turn a crappy win 98 machine that chugs along into something that I don't have to wait 2 mins Explorer to catch up.

Server Down, send medic.
It's like the TV's broke so lets get out the cards, and have a few games.
Anyway, not going on IM because i'll get hounded with people asking me questions I don't know the answer to.
Especially ones about TD's retirement, I need to get that right in my head first before I talk about it.
Not that I blame him for retiring, you need to cut yourself off if you need to get anything done. Raf had to do the same, but he left in a different way.
ho hum, I'll get a proper chance to talk to him on Friday.
God i'm looking forward to a Lads night out, I dont think i've been on one this year yet.
Andy (TheDaddy) Retires from XLink
AN OLD HACK RETIRES :)
Friends,
I'm here to announce my immediately effective resignation from the XLink project. I've enjoyed over 2 years of interesting, challenging and fun development on this project, and have had the privilege to work with some of the best people out there - within XLink itself, but also with devs from XboxMediaCenter(info) and Avalaunch(info) alongside many others. I would, of course, like to express the most vociferous appreciation for the XLink administration crew and moderation crew who have enabled the project to do what it has done for years now - lead the field in alternative online gaming. I will sadly miss the gentle company of all those who make the project work, and hope that we can still catch up from time to time on MSN.
I have passed control of this project to a close friend, and hope that he can find the time to assign responsibility to whoever he considers required to ensure that Live! is not the only option for the next generation of online gaming.
Thanks again to everyone who has contributed to this project - and thanks also to anyone who has used our stuff, and got some enjoyment from it. It cheers me to hear that recently, the first baby was born to a couple from America who met while using XLink software... Now, if that wasn't worth working for, nothing was...
"Long may it continue"
Cheers
TD
PS I know, I know - the server is broke.. it should get fixed sometime soon..
Was a great pleasure to work with Andy, I hope that he continues to be a part of XLink, even if from the background.
I'm meeting up with him, and a few other guys from XLink on Friday, looks like its a retirement party.

XLink
XLink is a big part of my life, I love online gaming and need to get my fix at least once a week, it used to be every day, but having a 11 week old baby make's you change your priorities.
not that i'm complaining.
So, what is XLink
This is what it says @ teamxlink.co.uk
XLink Kai: Evolution VII is a global gaming network, bringing together XBox users, PlayStation2, Gamecube, DS and PSP users to the one
community. Whereas other tunnelling applications stick to their roots, at XLink,
we like to think of ourselves as pioneers, breaking new boundaries and trying
new things.
but its more than that for me, its like a drug that keeps me coming back for more, I thought about taking a break or even quiting after the brith of my Daughter, but I cant do it.
But at least i've slowed down, but for how long, I feel like its drawing me back.
When i'm at work I spend a lot of the day browsing the XLink forums, answering questions and giving my input into the community.
Lets just say XLink is in the List of things I love, but cant seem to put into order.
For more information about XLink visit http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/
